A Loooooong Walk with the Dog
![]()
Instead of popping in a workout DVD last night, I suggested that Gary and I go for a walk together. We headed out, hand-in-hand, and were getting a good workout when we came to a stop. In the sidewalk in front of us sat an adorable, floppy-eared, big-eyed basset hound puppy, looking at us like he’d known us all his life. He romped over to us, gave us curious sniffs, then flopped onto the ground to get his belly rubbed.Gary and I played with him for a while, then started walking door to door, asking whose dog he was, because he certainly had a family close by. He was clean, friendly, and well-behaved, and took to us like he chose us, but with 3 cats at home, we just couldn’t bring another animal home. Everyone gushed over how beautiful the dog was but said they didn’t know where he lived.
So Gary and I walked…and walked…and walked! Leaving the dog to fend for himself on the sidewalk at night was not an option. Both Gary and I are animal lovers and a bit of softies, so we kept going, determined to find a home for the little guy before we headed home.
It got dark, and started to rain. Gary and I joked about our short little walk turning into a marathon as we went up one street and down another, all the while with the little basset hound trotting beside us and beaming at us like he was rather proud of himself.
Finally we found a gentleman who offered to take the puppy in until we could find out where he lives. We all agreed someone had to be looking for the little guy, but we didn’t know how far from home he had wandered. We exchanged phone numbers, said good-bye to the puppy, shook hands with the kind soul who took the puppy in, and headed home.
By this time, though, “home” was very far away! And it was windy and had started raining. Well, it made us walk faster, so I’m sure we got a great calorie burn on the way home. :)
Thanks to a big-eyed, tiny, loving puppy, my workout last night was well over an hour long! I’m glad we went for a walk and came across the little guy, and I’m glad he had a warm home last night instead of wandering the dark street. Watching Gary play with the puppy, I had to smile and feel grateful for his gentle heart and willingness to wander all over town with a tiny puppy until we found him a good home. He reminds me that there is still goodness in the world.

Awwwwwww!

You ARE Wonder Woman!
eep! so cute!
Heck I would have taken that critter home (I got my Bugsy abandoned in the street!) I hope that you find the little guy’s people. Putting up posters helps, but also call local dog pounds and non emergency police lines. Talk to the mailman as well. When we lost our Pebbles the guys who found her called up the local pound to see if anyone had lost a dog and boy were they happy! We had called in like 500 times a day!
Good luck!

What a beautiful story. Even brought a tear to this saps eye. I hope he finds his home, or a new one.
Thank goodness there are people like you and Gary. And what an extra bonus for your exercise.
The man who took him just adopted a dog, so he is going to call around and see if anyone will take the puppy, while we hunt for someone who may be missing their puppy. We’d love to have brought him home, but it’s just not practical with 3 cats too! And one VERY territorial cat
What a heartwarming story! Made me smile contentedly.
That kind of exercise is better than a dvd exercise any day of the week. Not only did you get in an hour’s walk, but you got even closer to Gary, the man you love, you saw goodness in this world (rare these days), and you were left just a little bit more loving by the end of the day.
All good stuff! Thanks for sharing, cause it made my heart grow just a little more loving today too.
Huggggggggggggggggggggs,
Shan
Awww!! You are so kind!
THAT IS TOOOO CUTE AND KIND OF ALL OF YOU!
Great job doggie for taking MJ and Gary for a nice long walk.

That puppy sounds so sweet… Someone MUST be looking for him! If not, he has some great people looking out for him, so he doesn’t have anything to worry about! What a fun workout, except the windy and rainy part!
Awww, you are stronger than me I would have taken him home(Why I have 5 fur “kids”lol), awesome way to workout!
We were sooooo tempted, and even after we walked home, Gary was asking “So what would you name him if we had kept him?” Ha ha.
Awwww
Too cute! Hope he finds his owners but what a great way to get that walk!
ahhhh…cutest picture ever! So glad you two were there to help him. I hope he finds his family again. Sweet little thing. Wonder woman to the rescue!!!
Aww! How sweet to go searching door to door
I hope he finds his home and glad he was able to get you giys into one serious WALK!
thats a very cute story, I enjoyed reading it !
Love this story.
I am glad you guys found the dog and took the time to search for his home. I am sure he will find his home or a new one. Thanks to you guys.
